My husband who is in the US Navy is stationed with a Marine Corps unit in Anchorage, AK on Elmendorf Air Force base.  I spend a couple weeks here and there. This was my first summer visiting the "Land of the Midnight Sun" - and it truly is just that. It is so wild not having it get dark until 4am and then only a "dusk" type feel until the sun rises again. 

These pictures were taken at Chugach State Park.  This is the third largest state park in America.  1/2 of a million acres.  You can hike, ski, camp and ride snow machines and 4 wheelers. We spent the day on a 4 Wheeler trail. It was about 60 degrees and gorgeous!

Picture 1 - This is my husband on his toy. We rode this thru the park on a trail for 4-wheelers. Was so amazing not to feel like a criminal on a 4-wheeler after spending 3 years in CA with almost no where to ride.

Picture 2 - This is Lake Eklutna.  It was amazing how blue it was and so clean. The water in this park looks like it has never been touched.  We hiked up to a Glacier but the melt had already started so we had to turn back since we didn't have any rock climbing gear.  Next year we are going to rent a canoe and explore this lake. We didn't bring any fishing rods -dang.!! I just leaned to fly-fish and this would have been a great place! 

Picture 3 - Was taken at a memorial park in Anchorage. On Sundays people come to fly kites. These are not just ordinary kites; these are kites that if you don't hold them right you could loose fingers. They are huge - like 20 feet across!! I could watch them for hours - but you will never see me flying one!!!
